The Bio Alternative to Diesel
Notes from the Drive Away from Oil Car Tour:
Even though I know it’s cleaner, I’m still getting used to the feeling of driving a diesel truck of my own. Since Monday I’ve been driving a Ford F-350 pickup, the most unassuming member of our Car Tour. What most people don’t realize is that any modern diesel engine is capable of running on the cleaner, renewable bio-diesel fuel in my tank right now.
Right off the 710 in Downey we pulled off to one of the few gas stations that provide bio-diesel pumps. The gritty industrial neighborhood is a far cry from the beach and Del Mar, the location of my last fill up. The station’s customers are mainly other truckers running shipping containers between the ports and the rail yards.
